The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the San Carlos Diplomatic Academy, opens inscriptions every year to participate in the Contest to enter the Diplomatic and Consular Career.  Such summons seeks to strengthen the Diplomatic and Consular Career with the highest human and academic qualifications. 

The contest has two phases that assess both, the basic knowledge of those who enroll in areas such as foreign relations, political science, international law and economy, and their knowledge of languages and rhetoric capacity.  

Those who pass the different phases of the contest enter the Diplomatic Career as Third Secretaries, in a trial period.
