Sovereignty and Frontiers

Article 9 of the Colombian Constitution states that "The Foreign Affairs of the State are based on national sovereignty". With this, and in line with objectives of the policies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Territorial Sovereignty and Frontier Development Division is responsible for compliance with international treaties on limits, and guarantees the public, peaceful outcome and exercise of sovereignty, in coordination with other State entities which are competent to act in this area.

Colombia´s foreign policy is focused on the conservation and strengthening of institutions and policies which in turn responds to the pace of change in the international system. For this, the Government has placed special emphasis on growth and competitiveness, equality of opportunity and the consolidation of peace, aiming for greater regional integration and the diversification of relations and agenda.
