Bogotá, August 17-2010 (OP). With regard to the verdict issued by the Honorable Constitutional Court on the "Supplementary Agreement for Cooperation and Technical Assistance on Defense and Security between the Governments of the Republic of Colombia in the United States of America", entered into October 30, 2009, the National Government wishes to communicate the following to the public at large:
- National Government abides by the decision issued by the Honorable Constitutional Court today during Plenary Council.
- National Government will study the detail of each decision in the light of the standards of International Law, the agreements in force and any other applicable standards.
- National Government reiterates the fundamental importance of cooperation between Colombia and the United States, which has already taken place for decades, on the issues of security and defense and particularly the fight against drug dealing in terrorism.
- National Government highlights the fact that this decision will not affect any agreement previously entered into or currently in place between both Governments, which have been under execution in good faith.
