The importance of Colombia’s political relationship with Canada led to the negotiation and signature of an FTA on November 21, 2008. It came into force on August 15, 2011 and is of the sort known as a “Latest Generation Agreement”, that is, in addition to the aspects of access to markets, services, investment, intellectual property, public buying and cooperation, it deals with matters of cooperation in labor related and environmental issues.
