Haiti is not the only matter concerning the Americas in that Agenda; moreover it is a subject in which there is joint interest among all the countries in the region
An open debate on Haiti’s situation was opened in April 2011 upon the rotating Presidency of the Council, with the purpose of fostering an agenda for its political, economic and social recovery within a security and sustainable development framework.
Present at the meeting were the Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon; the President of Haiti, Rene Preval, former President Bill Clinton as Special Envoy of the United Nations for Haiti, Jose Miguel Insulza, Secretary General of the OAS, the President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Luis Alberto Moreno, as well as seven Latin American Ministers of Foreign Affairs and other representatives for international organizations of the region.
