Caribbean Strategy

“International cooperation shall continue its consolidation as a foreign policy tool that helps strengthen the strategic axes towards the achievement of democratic prosperity and the construction of a new Colombia…Technical cooperation shall reinforce rapprochement processes with regions that are of interest to the country, prioritizing ties with Latin American and Caribbean countries. Therefore, there will be continuity on the regional South-South Cooperation strategies of Colombia with the countries of the Caribbean Basin

Focused on tightening bonds with the region, the program endeavors to share the strengths of Colombian institutions with countries of the Caribbean Basin through sound practices, success stories and lessons learned in the seven areas jointly identified as priorities:

Bilingualism

Intended to strengthen instruction skills and methodologies for teachers of English and Spanish as a second language

Antigua & Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, México, Montserrat, Nicaragua, Panamá,  Dominican Republic, Saint Kitts & Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, Surinam, Trinidad & Tobago and Venezuela

Vocational education

To strengthen technical education as well as instructors' skills to work in priority areas for the Caribbean Basin region

Risk Management (Disaster Prevention and Response)

To strengthen risk management skills of Caribbean government institution officials

Nutrition and Food Security

Transfer knowledge in the formulation, philosophies and execution of projects focused on food and nutrition security

Academic Mobility

The granting of scholarships to students in the region is expected to foster academic mobility, as well as cooperative ties between Higher Education Institutions of Central America and the Caribbean

Culture

To share Colombia's experience in the strengthening of public policy regarding cultural industry and local development with the countries of the Caribbean Basin

The Environment

Respond to the strategic interest of the region regarding biodiversity and natural resources
