Natural Sciences at UNESCO

The Natural Sciences sector is one of the important work thematic issues at UNESCO. Its main goal is to help, first of all, to reconstruct countries devastated by war and to help, in an effective manner, developing countries under the so-called “periphery principle” through which developed countries of the Western World may transfer knowledge to help solve the main needs of the developing world, thus reducing global inequalities.

The Natural Sciences Sector implements international programs around aspects related to the sciences of fresh water, marine sciences, ecological sciences and earth sciences while promoting the construction of national capacity regarding sciences, different fields of engineering and renewable energies. Particular emphasis is placed on developed countries and Africa, as well as on the prevention of natural disasters.
