The line of research on Global Affairs is in charge of analyzing the main trends in the international system and studying Colombia’s role in such trends. Its main objective is to generate concrete and comprehensive inputs and, at the same time, complement the work carried out by the Ministry, through the different missions accredited abroad.

The importance of the line of research on Global Affairs lies in the universal character of foreign policy. Colombia must be positioned as a relevant player in the international system, and therefore a deep and detailed understanding of each of the aspects of the issues that preoccupy the world takes on absolute relevance for the Strategic Think Tank and for the Ministry.

  • Definition

The line of research on Multilateral Affairs and the UN is in charge of analyzing the work of the different multilateral international institutions and, especially, of the United Nation (UN). The main objective of this line is to generate a more detailed comprehension of the mentioned institutions and seek new possibilities for Colombia to participate in them in a more comprehensive manner.

The multilateral scenario has been par excellence one of the most recognized diplomatic spaces for Colombia, thanks to its good practices and distinguished officials who have helped shape many of the current multilateral scenes. The importance of the Multilateral Affairs Line of Research lies precisely in the comprehensive strengthening of said historic actions and, also, in continuing to position Colombia as a key player of the multilateral scene at the regional and international levels.

  • Line of Research on Latin America and the Caribbean
  • Definition

The line of research on Latin America and the Caribbean is in charge of analyzing Colombia’s regional environment. Subject to the provisions of the preamble and of article 9 of the Political Constitution of Colombia, the main objective of this line is to seek ways to comprehensively strengthen Colombia’s relationship with the region after generating a thorough and complete analysis of each specific situation.

  • Importance

The importance of the line of research on Latin America and the Caribbean has been constitutionally recognized. Since 1991 the Colombian people have acknowledged the national importance of strengthening the ties among Latin-American countries, given their strong cultural and historic heritage. Therefore, this line of research seeks convincing mechanisms which will allow, through a profound, thorough and competent analysis, to improve the understanding of the environment where Colombia interacts.
